What are you doing to nourish your body, mind and soul?
It’s a pleasure to introduce guest author – Vicki Friedman from MeTreat Retreats, co-host of the ‘Replenish ME!’ Retreat.
Most people associate the word ‘nourish’ with food or eating, and we all know that nourishing our body with balanced and nutritious food (like the food we provide on retreats) is really important for our wellbeing.
But it’s important that we nourish our bodies, minds and souls in other ways too.
Nourishing ourselves can help us overcome stress, prevent burnout and restore balance in our lives. In addition to giving our body the right nutrients, it’s important to regularly do activities that reduce overwhelm and help us connect with ourselves on a deeper level.
Below are some important ways that you can nourish yourself on a regular basis:
EXERCISE – commit to some type of exercise as regularly as you can – even 30 mins a day is great. Try new routines to keep things fun and maybe even exercise with a friend to keep you accountable.
SLEEP/REST– schedule in a regular bedtime and make sure you set time aside in your busy schedule to regularly rest, meditate, ground yourself and relax.
ESTABLISH A MORNING ROUTINE – this could involve stretching, meditating, lighting candles, using affirmation cards, writing in a journal, drinking water, taking vitamins, taking a shower or bath – basically anything that gets you up and sets you up for the best day possible.
REGULARLY GET OUT IN THE FRESH AIR – getting outside every day is a great way to boost your mood and reduce anxiety. It’s also a really important way to increase our often depleted Vitamin D stores which can lead to low mood.
PRIORITISE CONNECTION – make sure that you are regularly catching up with friends or doing activities that encourage connection and belonging in your life. Having a sense of community can nourish our soul by allowing us to feel loved, safe, secure and united with those around us.
FUEL YOUR PASSION/FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS – nourish your soul by making time for the things that you feel passionate about and by setting goals and following your dreams. This could simply include making time for a hobby in your life, or finding a profession that you feel truly excited and enthusiastic about.
There are many more ways that you can nourish yourself in all areas of your life and it isn’t one size fits all. The important thing is that you are aware of what YOU need to do to nurture and nourish yourself and that you try and do it holistically.
If you are simply focusing on food and diet, you might be missing out on things that lift you up mentally or spiritually. The aim is to seek balance and feed your body, mind and soul simultaneously.
