You’re feeling the need to escape the ‘rat race’ and a retreat of some kind is desperately needed. Yet – you’re short on cash. Damn! While a luxury retreat sure would be nice, for now, you just need to get away, without spending a fortune.
Luckily, we’ve sourced a selection of the best budget retreats from across Australia. Sure, some of the facilities may be a little basic. You might share a kitchen or sleep in a bunk bed. Yet you’ll still get to see some pretty spectacular scenery and enjoy plenty of peace and quiet – and in many cases, even your meals and yoga classes are included.
And sometimes – going ‘budget’ might just give you that extra-special authentic and ‘off-the-beaten-track’ type experience you’ve been craving.
Longwood Retreat (Adelaide Hills, SA)
If escaping the city and reconnecting with nature is your top priority, Longwood Retreat is certainly a hidden gem. Here, you can experience a little farm life, with their ‘holistic approach to cultivating permaculture’ – or simply sit in a hammock and relax.
Accommodation wise, you can choose a variety of private dormitory style rooms, most with single beds but queen-sized beds are available. Some rooms have an ensuite, with toilet and basin, with access to a communal shower block. Other rooms have a private shower.
Kitchen facilities are shared, with the basic cooking essentials provided (oil, cutlery, plates etc.) – and a pantry to store your personal items. There is also an outdoor barbeque area.
It’s certainly a ‘no frills’ option, but its beautiful location and close proximity to other local attractions in the area, make it a handy choice.

Krishna Village (Tweed Valley Hinterland, NSW)
If you’re after an authentic yoga retreat on a budget, Krishna Village – Eco Yoga Community is ideal. Located roughly halfway between Byron Bay and the Gold Coast, and 30 minutes inland.
Their accommodation options start from a low $50 per night if you’re willing to bring your own tent or camper van or opt for a twin share room with bunkbed at $100 per night or choose a more private single room (in a converted shipping container) at just $120. You can also stay in the guesthouse quite cheaply, either in a shared room or private. Or, if you’ve got a little bit more to spend, their Lotus Pod Apartment might do the trick at $200 per night.
The best bit? All the room prices quoted, include three meals per day (all organic, vegetarian and vegan) plus daily yoga classes. And you can choose from additional massages, life coaching and more. They also offer great packages for longer stays, which are well worth checking out.
