You will be staying in the self catering accommodation in the heart of Portpatrick – a converted Old Church into luxury accommodation. The church has been fully modernised, whilst keeping as many original features as possible, including the huge arched Crick Aframes in the roof and stained “ rose window “ on the upper floor. There are five spacious double ensuite rooms, as well as a large family bathroom. O the upper floor, the open plan has been divided into various areas.( where we will be spending time painting). You can also enjoy relaxing on the dining space watching log burner, for those what enjoy a real fire and playing pool in the game area.
The venue it’s a limited of 10 participants , ensuring an intimate and focused artistic environment, is well as enjoying the breathtaking views of Portpatrick that will fuel your creative spirit.
Choose to stay in a luxurious ensuite double bedroom for £500 if you come alone, or bring a friend and enjoy a double bedroom for £600 for both of you. A deposit of £120 is payable on booking to secure your spot.(refundable in case of the event cancellation.), with an additional returnable house booking deposit of £100.
A bit about myself( your tutor and host).
From a young age, my love for art has been an unwavering passion. The vivid strokes of creativity have been my companion since childhood, shaping my identity and providing a canvas for self-expression.
I have completed art college in Italy and participating in notable events like the Landscape Artist of the Year, shortlisted in the 20 of the 99 World artist contexts and art exhibitions in Wolverhampton. Alongside my formal education, I hold a design certificate. Currently, I’m immersed in studying Art and Humanity at Open University, expanding my artistic insights. In my personal art studio, I not only create but also share my expertise by teaching art classes.
What you will learn by the end of this weekend :
This weekend, we will develop a diverse range of skills and knowledge. This includes mastering basic drawing techniques ,sketching ,exploring painting methods, understanding perspective in composition, utilizing chiaroscuro for light and shadow effects, gaining insight into colour theory, and experimenting with various techniques and media. It will provide a comprehensive foundation for creative expression and visual communication.
We will use a diverse range of materials, including pencils, charcoal, ink pens , watercolour, pastels, and acrylic on canvas.
Day 1:
Arrive at Portpatrick and settle into our accommodation
Welcome dinner buffet and drinks to get to know each other and discuss our goals for the weekend.Day 2:
After breakfast we will walk to explore the surrounding landscape and gather materials, inspiration and sketching.
After lunch we will create drawings using different techniques and media.Day 3:
After breakfast, Plein air painting session, capturing the beauty of the seaside ( if weather permits).
After lunch, final painting session to finish our acrylic landscape on canvas in your own style.
Ending the weekend by summarizing our accomplishment and celebrate our creative achievements.
Farewell dinner buffet to toast to a successful art retreat weekend.
