Bali is well known for its incredible beaches and surf. And what better way to learn to surf, or further develop your skills, than by participating in a surf retreat.

Many surf retreats also tend to combine yoga, as apparently yoga and surfing combines nicely for both gaining control over your body and mind. Plus, you’ll typically enjoy a range of spa treatments, and even local trips and tours to immerse yourself in a little local culture.

So, here goes, our top surf retreats in Bali.

Surf Goddess Retreats (Seminyak)

Surf Goddess Retreats offer women-only luxury surfing retreats in Seminyak. The focus here is learning how to surf in a supportive, fun environment with their 6 night/7 day packages, while also enjoying daily yoga and meditation, 5 days of surf or stand up paddle boarding lessons (including all equipment provided), plus all gourmet meals provided, luxury accommodation, healthy home-made cookies and daily fruit baskets and (here’s the best bit) – unlimited spa treatments.

Sound amazing? It gets better. You also get to experience your very own customised ‘Bliss Day’ – where you can choose an incredible adventure (from a list of 15), such as Batik Printing, a Balinese market tour or a snorkelling adventure.

Pineapple House Bali (Canggu)

Pineapple House offer a great range of retreats, including their Surf Yoga retreat which can be completely customised to your needs and preferences. You get to create your very own schedule, rather than being tied down to what’s provided. If you prefer a little flexibility, you’ll certainly find that here.

Despite the flexibility, you’ll still learn to surf, take part in yoga classes and can then reward yourself with a massage. Packages start at just 2 nights and go all the way through to 11 nights – with accommodation and breakfast included.

Pelan Pelan Bali Surf & Yoga (Canggu)

‘Pelen Pelen’ apparently means ‘take it easy’ where they allow for a somewhat flexible retreat experience. You can choose either a straight surf retreat, or a yoga retreat, or you can happily combine both in their ‘Get it all’ package.

This package allows you to spend a full week, with surf lessons in the mornings, and yoga in the afternoons, plus plenty of time to relax by the pool or enjoy a massage (Monday to Friday). Weekends, you’re free to do as you please, either by exploring the local area, sitting by the pool or hitting the beach.

It’s a good mix between freedom and flexibility, with some simple healthy routines and activities thrown in.

Surf Lodge (Limasan)

Here you’ll find both luxury and surfing – plus a little yoga thrown in as an optional extra if you wish. Choose between their beginner package or the surfer package (for more experienced surfers) for an entire week, or 2 or 3 weeks if you’re really keen.

Included is accommodation at the lodge, breakfast and dinners, one massage per week, all surfing and equipment, plus plenty more.

Surf to your hearts content…

Catching the surf in Bali is certainly very appealing, particularly if you’re already a keen surfer. While we’ve only featured a few amazing surf-style retreats, there are literally dozens on offer, all with different styles and complementary activities.

However, many surf retreats are also offered to beginner surfers, or those who have never surfed before. And while the thought of tackling a new skill may seem daunting at first, there are many who claim that conquering the surf has helped them find more confidence and a sense of inner calm, that they’ve been able to bring back to their every-day lives.

You never know, you just might love it!
